Searching for Spice

Happy Sunday to everybody!

Today I want to tell you about a new book by a Nangie graduate, Megan DiMaria.  Nancy and I first met Megan in Estes Park, I think, and we reconnected with her again at our Glen Eyrie conference.  Megan's first novel, published by the great folks at Tyndale House, features a wife who is trying to spice up her marriage to her rather undemonstrative hubby.  It's cute . . . and meaingful.

I owe Megan a huge thank you for telling me about "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep."  I was working on SHE ALWAYS WORE RED at the Glen Eyrie conference, and Megan talked with me about her work--she has a day job at a photographer's studio, and the photographer is very involved in this service for parents who have lost their babies.  I used the idea--in fact, I mentioned the real service--in SAWR.  I think it's important and meaningful for parents who lose their little babies through disease to have some sort of memento so they can tangibly remember the little one who will forever be in their hearts and minds.  You can check out the organization here.

  2. I really enjoyed Megan's book. It was very cute, but also, I think most married women can relate to Linda and her longing for a bit more.

  3. Sounds like a great book.

And what a wonderful service NILMDTS provides. I had never heard of it before I read about it in your book. Since I coordinate Pastoral Care in my church, that's a great resource for me to be aware of.

What a beautiful thing to do. Wish there had been someone like them 46 years ago when my baby daughter was stillborn. But at least I know I'll get to see her for real one day. She's going to be just as beautiful as I have imagined she'd be. Patti G

PS: Bet her grandparents have been rocking her and loving her until I can get there.

  5. I am SO glad you are highlighting this book...

I actually won an autographed pre-release copy from Megan at a contest at Writer Interrupted (with Gina Conroy).

I chewed through that book in three days and loved the wit, humor, charm, and story.

I could totally relate to the story and laughed and cried throughout the book.

  8. The book sounds great!

I was thrilled to read about Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep in SAWR. When my 14-month old nephew was dying from a brain tumor last year, my sister contacted a NILMDTS photographer. I video-taped the photo session. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! The photographer was so gentle and peaceful and loving. She brought so much more than her skills into that hospital room. Her photos were beautiful. Hayden was so calmed by her touch and her soothing words that he looked very peaceful and even happy. We had not seen him that way for months.

Sadly Hayden passed away a few days after the photos were taken. Our family will always be grateful for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and the precious gift they have given to us by simply using their talents to create joyful memories in a time filled with such pain.

Thanks for getting the word out about them through your book and your blog!

    Elizabeth
