I loved Lois--she was funny, feisty, and red-haired. She was the only writer I know who used to fax in hand-written manuscripts. She used to call me and chat for an hour, at least. I will miss her.
You can read more about Lois on Wikipedia.

ReplyDeleteThat's so sad. I grew up reading the Mandie books but never finished the series. I stopped at #35 I think. I'll have to find the newer books.
ReplyDeleteShe will be missed. I loved those books growing up!
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for letting us know! I have very fond memories of reading her Mandie books growing up.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Lois's family will ever read this, but I wanted to write anyway. I began reading the Mandie Books when I was about 14 or 15 years old. While that's the usual top age for Mandie readers I continued reading them until I read the entire series. I read them until I was well into my 20's. My Aunt began to read them as well and it became a tradition for her to purchase each new Mandie book for me as a gift when they came out. I was recently able to share them with my 17 year old step daughter who has enjoyed them as well. I hope the peace of God has given you, her family comfort as you remember how much of a legacy she has left for so many!
ReplyDeleteshe was my great aunt. she was my grandmother's sister. sibyl is my grandma, although we call her memaw. i didnt even know that lois had died. she used to send me books whenever she published them. she would write her name and a message for me and my brother in them. Like i said, no one told me she had died. i moved away from home about 5 years ago, so i havent been in contact with my family. i would like to know more about her death if anyone is still coming on this webpage. my email address is tsmith0070@student.greenvilleschools.org

Lois will be missed a lot by me. I just found out that she died when I saw the "In memory of Lois Gladys Leppard" at the end of the first Mandie movie made. If it wasn't for the Mandie series that she wrote, I probably would never be a reader.I started reading her books around the age 11 and sometimes I still go back to them now in my 20's. Because of her I have found joy in reading and even though she has passed on she will always be in our hearts and lives through her books and other things she has done. God bless you and thanks for having this site.
