A test for you Literary Lions

If this is Friday, I'm flying away again . . . across the continent, as a matter of fact. I'm going to be with pal Susan Plett and other Canadian writers in Edmundton, Alberta, Canada, which is far, far away and bound to be chilly.

Another pal, Kay Day (don't you love her name?) sent me this link. I thought I aced the test, then learned that my first attempt netted only nine out of 13--and I had even read two of the books I missed! Oh, well. I think I've been eating on plates with lead glaze.

We writers have (or should have!) a thing for first lines. They should be memorable. Can you recognize the first lines in this online quiz?

Pop back in and let me know how you did!

Sigh, I am so jealous. I'd both like to be with Susan AND in Edmonton! Have a great time! (okay, I know you don't have a clue who I am, and that's okay--you know who SHE is and she's your pal, so that means I like you --and she can do all the explaining).

I spell "Edmonton" with a southern accent. :-)

I tried the test. I suppose I should be saying I didn't do too bad for guessing or else I made some lucky guesses to get 8 of 13 without having read several of the books and the few I did were too many years ago for the first lines to actually still be connected to the titles in my brain. LOL

have fun with Susan and stay warm! Don't stay too long or you'll start adding u to everything.

Oh, wait. Ha ha. I guess you already do!

I got 10, but two were very lucky guesses. Fun! Have a great trip.

12 for me. But that included two lucky guesses on #8 and #13. Had no clue on those, just took a swing.

10 for me; several were lucky guesses for me, too.

Have fun in Edmonton!

Ten for me. I missed all three that I guessed on.

Nine. Unbelievable since the ones I recognized or seemed familiar I'd read soooo long ago.

10 for me!

7, which is great considering that I guessed most of them!
I'm jealous of the Edmonton trip. I'd love to be going there right now to visit family and friends!

10 for me and I'm mad because I should have gotten the Bulwer-Lytton one right because of the infamous prize for bad writing! Rats! But I confess I haven't read all 13...Some I just know because I studied the Cliff's Notes and one I got right because I took Tammy Alexander's class on dissecting novels at ACFW. ; }

I got nine out of the bunch, too. And I don't think I've read any of them! (Um, well, an abridged Moby Dick when I was a teen.) But you know how writing books often give you the first lines of novels to show how it's done---I've read a LOT of those! :)

I got 5. I should win something for admitting that.
