In Memory . . . James Albert Elwell, 1935-2008

My father died yesterday.   He fell and broke his hip about three weeks ago, and things went downhill from there.

The dancing picture, taken in 1975, is my favorite of the two of us. Pretty radical, considering that we were a couple of non-dancing Baptists.

The men in my life: son, husband, daddy. (Many years ago!)

If you feel led, I'd appreciate your prayers for my mom and my two sisters. And for me, especially on Friday, as I sing at the funeral.

~~Angie

Oh, Angie. It is so hard to lose our parents. Both of mine have gone to be with Jesus. I share your tears and rejoice with your beautiful memories. One day you'll dance again with your Dad. Prayers are with you.

Angie, I am so sorry. Both my parents passed in the month of December and that can make it especially difficult. I will be praying for you and your family.

Many hugs,

I thank God that Death is not the victor, but Heaven awaits.

I am/will be praying for you. My husband sang at both of his parents funerals; I don't know how that can happen, but God provides the special ability.

So sorry for your loss...I will definitely be praying for you and your family! "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

Oh Angie - I am so sorry to hear your news. Like many who have written above, I have felt that certain emptiness that comes with the loss of a dear parent. My dad, like yours, died way too young, and I miss him to this day, although it's been over 30 years. But, what joy is in our hearts when we know that our loved ones now live with the Lord and we will see them again when our time comes. I sang at my mother's memorial last year. God gives us the strength to do this, as He knows how much our parents would love it. My prayers are with you and your family. Clyde

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

May the Lord strengthen you and your family, and may you feel his arms around you as you sing and in the coming days and weeks.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I can't relate, but can only imagine. He was only a couple of years older than my daddy.

There's just something special about a girl's daddy - if he's a good one. Looks like yours was.

I'll be praying for all of you.

Angie,

I'm so sorry for your loss. But what a blessing to have such a loving father in your life. I can see, just in the pictures, the love you shared. May God be with you all, holding you closely, during this time.

Angie, we are saddened for your untimely loss. We grieve for you and your family. A son of a close friend died this week while home on leave from military service. It is never easy and a small part of us seems to die along with them. But as the seasons change so do we and the God of all creation will ease your suffering and fill that void with His grace.

You and your family are in my prayers. I am praying that the service on Friday will reflect much love for your father and your FATHER. May memories of your earthly father always remind you of how tremendously you are loved by your Heavenly Father.

Angie, I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I will definitely pray for you, your sisters, and your mom. It will be a difficult time of adjustment. I will also remember to pray for you on Friday that your voice will give comfort and hope to those that are present to celebrate the life of your dad. He's in the presence of the Lord this Christmas. Knowing that is a gift.

Blessings to your family.

Father, wrap Your arms of comfort and support around this precious family. You know loss, and You know it was never meant to be like this. But Your Son, God the Son, conquered death and the grave. This is not goodbye. This is see you soon; but sometimes it feels like goodbye.

Help this family through their grief. Send them angels with skin on to minister to them, to cry with them, to laugh with them, and to care for them. Especially be with Angie's precious Momma.

Oh, how we long for that great reunion in Heaven! But not until the last soul knows of Your saving grace. Till then, let Angie's daddy drink in Your presence like he's never drank before.

Be with my precious sis. Amen, and amen.

Angie, There are no words that can provide comfort more than the words of Jesus: "I am with you always." Having already walked this sad road, I can promise you that He truly is with you now as you grieve. I am praying, and will continue to do so, for you and your family that you will be especially aware of His presence and comfort.

Oh, Angie. So sorry about your Dad. The world just feels different, barren somehow, when parents die. But our Good Shepherd fills the empty spaces. I'll be praying for you all--comfort, strength, peace, and good memories. God bless.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I lost my own dad 5 years ago, although I frequently "feel" his spirit near me. The photo of you dancing with your dad says it all...that very special bond between a father and daughter.
Sending prayers and thoughts your way today for you and your family.
